Derrière le faux collectif Sons of Socrates, se cache un
homme désireux de hommage au football d’avant l’arrêt
Bosman, celui des après-midis d'automne passées sur le
champ de patates à côté du pavillon familial ou encore
celui des derbys de quatrième division dans l’Angleterre
ouvrière. C’est aussi une glorification de la grandeur de ce
sport et de celle ses icones, passées ou présentes, de ce
qu’il a à offrir de plus beau, de Rino Della Negra à
Socrates, de Raoul Diagne à Megan Rapinoe.
Très présent dans le rock, le football est absent de l'ambient et de
l'expérimental. Il apparaissait donc comme un défi de réaliser un
album sur ce thème. Le résultat est une collection de pièces
instrumentales composées à partir de synthétiseurs et de
captations sonores puisées dans différents stades d'Europe et
d'Amérique du Sud. Inspirés par la grandeur du sport, l'esprit
olympique et les chants de supporters, ces morceaux revendiquent
une part de naïveté propre à l'exaltation des sentiments sportifs et
aux sonorités synthétiques assumées. Toutes ces caractéristiques
font de cet album le premier de ce que l'on pourrait qualifier de
"stadium synth".
Fruit de la collaboration des labels Cœur Sur Toi Records
(Marseille), Lotophagus Records (Achères) et Veinte 33 Records
(Montevideo), cet album a été pensé comme un objet
éminemment collector. Sorti en digital sur nos plateformes
Bandcamp, cet LP existe aussi sous la forme d'une édition
cassette limitée à 26 exemplaires dont chacune dispose d'un
visuel unique rendant hommage à l'iconographie populaire des
livres de notre enfance. L'édition française de la cassette
comprend 11 titres inédits tandis que l'édition uruguayenne en
contient 16. Des éditions spéciales aux visuels PSG et OM sont
proposées par les labels Cœur Sur Toi et Lotophagus Records.
